nou daar ben ik dan (na vier dagen gewerkt te hebben en geen tijd). dit is geen origineel ding op een Twee, hoewel het parts number wel Ford is en uit die tijd stamt. hoe de eigenaar daar bij komt zou ik niet weten, maar waarschijnlijk heeft hij zijn Twee met dat ding zo aangekocht en aangenomen dat het origineel was. nou heeft een Twee een aantal zaken die toentertijd uiterst modern waren, maar daar hoorde geen starter interlock reset switch bij. Ik denk dat deze reset switch wel geleverd werd op luxere en grotere Fords, afgaande op het nummer. trouwens ik zie wel meer mods: de bobine zit rechtsboven de rembekrachtiging, maar die hoort eigenlijk links- of rechtsvoor bovenop het blok te zitten (afhankelijk van bouwjaar). ook geen originele battery hold down clamp en ik zie apart metaal rond de blauwe spanningsregelaar zitten. soms is zo'n spanningsregelaar Ford-blauw en soms gewoon in de kale metaaltint.

Ok voor de uitleg, maar nu weten we nog niet precies wat het is en/of doet ?

nu is het wachten op antwoord uit de VS. net een berichtje gestuurd naar kenners. wie weet weten we het straks. dat het voorkomt in '74 elektrische schema's is wel interessant.

seat belt interlock switch only on 1974 fords did away with it in 75

the purpose was so when you were working on the car you could bypass the switch one time to start it while under the hood otherwise someone had to be sitting in the car

That would my guess (Seat Belt starter switch) ... my 1975 does NOT have it

all 74 I've seen including mine had it, ... except the mexican V8 but, safety stuff is not a must in Mexico.

That red button is a fuel cut off inertia switch that shuts off the fuel pump in case of a accident and is standard equipment on all fords since 1963 ,now they hide them behind the kick panels or in the trunk . (little secret if you go over a hard bump and your Ford dies push the RED button and save yourself big money at the mechanics

it is unique to 1974. it has to do with the seat-belt interlock system. I have seen 1974 mustang IIs with them. I have seen a 1974 thunderbird with it as well.

early models(pre June '74) I do believe is was stock till Mechanics complained & then it was deleted ...

Harry: I saw three '74's here (there are not many in Holland, about six-seven confirmed '74's) and I remember those three didn't have it. Maybe at some time they were deleted by their owners... That's why I thought they couldn't be stock, original parts.

Dus een van de twee suggesties wat het zou kunnen zijn is het.

Het zou vlug gevonden zijn als we het originele schema moesten hebben (volledig).
Nu weten we nog niet veel... allemaal gissingen...

Ik dacht dat het een soort automaat by-pass switch was, maar dat zou tenslotte gevaarlijk zijn, als de bak in drive staat, en je kan dan toch starten door die knop in te drukken... niet heel logisch en anti-veiligheid...

Verder zoeken...
Misschien heeft Dakloos het volledige schema ?




UPDATE: GEVONDEN

Is dus wel degelijk een override switch voor de seat belts...
Indien men aan de motor moet werken, hoeft er niemand in de auto te zitten om hem te kunnen starten.

Seat Belt/Starter Interlock System



All 1974 and some 1975 are equipped with the Federally required starter interlock system. The purpose of this system is to force the wearing of seat belts.

The system includes a warning light and buzzer, weight sensors in the front seats, switches in the outboard front seal belt retractors, and an electronic control module.

The electronic control module requires that the driver and right front passenger first sit down, then pull out their seat belts. If this is not done, the starter will not operate, but the light and buzzer will. The sequence must be followed each time the engine is started unless the driver and passenger have remained seated and buckled. If the seat belts have been pulled out and left buckled, the engine will not start. The switches in the retractors must be cycled for each start. If the belts are released after the start, the light and buzzer will operate.

If the system should fail, preventing starting, the interlock by-pass switch under the hood can be used. This switch permits one start without interference from the interlock system. This by-pass switch can also be used for servicing purposes.


TROUBLESHOOTING


If the starter will not crank or the warning buzzer will not shut off, perform the following checks:

Problem: Front seat occupant sits on a prebuckled seat belt.

Solution: Unbuckle the prebuckled belt, fully retract, extract, and then rebuckle the belt.

Problem: The front seat occupants are buckled, but the starter will not crank.

Solution: The unoccupied seat sensor switch stuck closed before the seat was occupied. Reset the unoccupied seat sensor switches by applying and then releasing 50 lbs. or more of weight to the seat directly over the seat sensor switches.

Problem: Starter will not crank with a heavy parcel on the front seat.

Solution: Buckle the seat belt around the parcel somewhere else in the car. Unbuckle the seat belt when the parcel is removed from the front seat.

Problem: Starter will not crank due to starter interlock system component failure.

Solution: An emergency starter interlock override switch is located under the hood on the fender apron. Depress the red push button on the switch and release it. This will allow one complete cycle of the ignition key from OFF to Start and back to OFF. Do not tape the button down as this will result in deactivation of the override feature.


DISABLING THE STARTER INTERLOCK SYSTEM


Cars built after October 29, 1974 are no longer required to have the interlock system. The system may be legally disabled on cars which have it, but the following procedure must be used:

1. Open the hood and locate the override switch and terminal connector attached to it.


2. Remove the brown and the blue/yellow wire. After cutting these wires, splice them together.


3. To remove the buzzer, remove the terminal connector from the buzzer and tape it to the wiring harness to prevent it from rattling. The buzzer now can be removed and discarded. Federal law requires that the warning light still be operable, so do not disconnect it.

tja, zo zie je maar weer: je blijft bijleren over onze auto's en wat er origineel op zit en wat niet. het is wel duidelijk waarom mijn wagens het ding niet hebben. ik zal dus de Belgische eigenaar gelijk moeten geven: op zijn auto zat het ding er af-fabriek in.
